Katarina Wit first started skating at five years old. It was her chance to demonstrate her talent and gain entry into a Karl-Marx-Stadt special school specifically designed for gifted kids. Her coach Jutta was also at the school. Witt finished second at the World Championships of Copenhagen in 1982. It was her first appearance. Since then the elegance and grace of her skating captured the eye of all. Her dominance began in this particular sport. Olympic Erfolg At the Sarajevo Winter Games in 1984, Katarina won the gold medal for women's figure-skating after a fiercely contested contest. After four years, the event, she was able to take home an even tighter race. Actually, she did not win the contest for free skating, but she did win gold on the basis of results during the compulsory figure and short program. Witt was the first female to be crowned champion in women's and men's figure-skating ever since Sonja Hiene. Hall of Fame Witt was capable of returning to figure skating after her accomplishments as a film actress. She competed in Lillehammer Winter Games, 1994. In spite of not receiving the gold medal, she impressed the crowd. Witt was named to the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame by the members of it in 1995.
